The Confederation of Social Entrepreneurs (CoSE) is an association set up to promote the interests of social businesses and other third-sector organisations across Merseyside. Officially launched on Social Enterprise Day 2007, CoSE supports social businesses and celebrates the contribution they make to the economy of the area. In July 2008 we published our procurement toolkit - Understanding Public Sector Contracting - a toolkit for third sector organisations on Merseyside.    An extract from the toolkit can be downloaded here.

Knowing Your Market - finding tender opportunities

Throughout the work of the Confederation of Social Entrepreneurs we have considered developing a tender alert service; however we have reached theconclusion that this would not be an effective use of our resources, for the following reasons:

• A key factor in being successful in public sector contracting is knowing your market well. The reality is that there is no one service that can provide tenders from all the possible sources, the key point is to be aware of who your potential customers are and how they publicise tender opportunities.

• There are already several alert services in operation
